Title: New to site - glad to find you
Post by: warriormom on March 22, 2015, 08:16:35 PM
Hi

I'm new to this site but have been in the trenches with BPD daughter, now 24, for at least ten years.  I'll offer as much insight and experience as I can for all of you, and would like to learn from your experiences.  My situation now involves two grandchildren, my BPD's daughter and son, who are precious and I worry about them constantly.  My youngest daughter is also now showing signs of BPD but not nearly as severe…neither have been diagnosed.

thanks!

HELLO Warriormom

Welcome to the site and the Parent's Board.

We're glad you found us and sorry to hear that your girls are struggling.

I can totally understand your username and being in the "trenches"!  It does feel like we are in a war to cope and deal with our struggling children.  Adding grandchildren to the situation, while a blessing, can add another layer of concern.

How old are your grandchildren?  How is your d24 coping with parenthood?

What behaviors of your youngest daughter are most concerning for you?  How old is your youngest and is she in any kind of therapy program?

The best way I have found to begin to make things better was to gain an understanding of the disorder and figure out what was driving my daughter's behaviors.  Here is some information that you may be able to glean insight from:

Lessons (https://bpdfamily.com/message_board/index.php?topic=114267.msg1125525#msg1125525)

Once I got a basic understanding of the causes of behaviors I was able to see more clearly how to go forward in an empowered and positive way... .knowledge is power  *)

I look forward to your response Warriormom, and getting to know you better!

Hi Warriormom,

Welcome to bpdfamily! I'm glad you found the site. It helps to know that others understand what you are dealing with. And you'll find lots of helpful information and skills/tools to help the dynamic with your daughter.

It is hard to watch grandchildren struggle with their BPD parent's disordered thinking and emotional dysregulation. Do you see them often? Is their dad involved in their lives and living with your daughter?

Do your daughters have a relationship with each other?

Keep posting - it is very therapeutic, and you will be greeted by so many people with circumstanced similar to your own. You will be amazed. Take care of yourself.
