Hi Gayanne,

Welcome to the Parent's Board.  Feeling we are losing or have lost our child is what brings most of us here.  I felt the same way when I came here.  Most of what I read about BPD online sounded so hopeless it scared me half to death.  Then I found this place listed as a resource in the back of a book by an author and expert on BPD in Adolescents, Blaise Aguirre.  I found real and affective help here for my family.  You can too!

My daughter is 18 now and doing well as she begins her independent life as an adult in the world.

How old is your daughter?  What behaviors are you seeing that lead you to believe she has BPD and has she been diagnosed by professionals?

I look forward to your reply.

Hi Gayanne,

Welcome to the site, I'm so glad you found us so you have a support network to help you through this. You're not alone

I felt the same way when I found this site. Everything I read about BPD/NPD was so dark and awful, and my anxiety and fears were sky high. Reading the clinical, research-based information about BPD is a good start, especially the recent studies now that we are learning more about the brain and emotion regulation.

It is remarkable how much it helps to understand BPD, and how effective we can be with a handful of skills and tools, like validation and setting boundaries.

I hope you'll share more with us about your D and how she's doing, how you're doing. Does she live with you, or live nearby?
