Title: Struggling with the cycle of rejection
Post by: cowichemedic on April 05, 2015, 02:40:10 PM
My wife is Bi-Polar, a diagnosis she hates and struggles with each day.  We have been married for just under two years and have had 5 cycles of what I call "silent treatment" episodes.  I have done something that triggered absolute shutdown from her.  What I finally realized this time, was that there was a build up to this episode and I was walking on eggshells prior to the total blow out.  Then I do something that causes a total shutdown that will last from 1 day to a week.  I went to a doctor this time for help because I wanted something that would cause me to not care when she was rude, angry and treating me like I'm stupid or not interacting with me at all, but able to be the sweetest person to everyone else (which pissed me off to no end). The doctor (who has a mental health background) told me that it looks like my wife is undiagnosed with BPD.  After watching your video and reading about characteristics of BPD, I see this is true for her.

I love her, don't want to leave her, but each of these episodes is chipping away at our relationship and I'm afraid I may not have what it takes to persevere.  I'm hoping a support group and counseling with help me.

I don't know if I have what it takes either, but I'm giving it what I have to give and keeping some for myself.  I hope that the tools, lessons, books and support from the group and your counseling can help you keep your spirit whole.
