Title: Is screaming a stress release for BPD child?
Post by: Marie-Louise on May 01, 2015, 11:35:35 PM
Hi

In the last year, I find that my daughter screams when she is mad but she also screams for

the pleasure of making noise. I do not know if it is bothering me because I am tired of it or because she has increased her amount of screaming. Her friends tolerate it and laugh with her but I am exhausted... .my ears ring when she does it. I have asked her politely to stop but she just keeps on doing it. Is this part of BPD? The only explanation I would have is this has become a stress release to replace all the stress release she does not do anymore.

Any thoughts on this... .it would be appreciated. If she keeps it up, I will loose my hearing.

Hi Marie Louise,

Good to see you again.

I can imagine that the screaming would become more than annoying for you.  Does your d scream when upset or does it seem to come out of the blue for no apparent reason?

Have you asked her how she feels after she screams?

I can watch my daughter's emotional temperature rise when she talks louder and louder.  I usually will remind her to lower her voice to lower her emotions... .it works for her.  This may be different for your daughter.

Hi lbj,

No her screaming is just for fun. She does random noise loudly.  Of course she does scream when she is upset at me... .I get that. It is her fooling around screaming that annoys me. The part I do not understand is that it is constant.
