Title: Anyone struggling doing things you used to do as a cpl? Post by: dobie on May 16, 2015, 01:33:07 AM Just wondered I'm seven months out and I still can't watch a movie or do anything that reminds me of "things we enjoyed"
The idea of having coffee , visiting a gallery , perusing old bookshops seeing a show anything like that triggers me . If I go on a date its always bars or restaurants . Post by: runningup on May 16, 2015, 04:41:03 AM yeah even simple things like washing the car, cooking a meal, showers, all things that eat at me! Everything was done together, with the mirroring we lived in one anothers pocket, and thats hard as hell to disconnect from

I'm sorry you're going through this. Yes I struggled with all of the things like TV programs, music, our old haunts like favorite restaurants and festivals. I had stopped watching her programs ( I've cut the cable since ) and simply the idea of going to the places we frequented triggered me. I made an effort to change my routine and patronize different places until I felt stronger and it didn't trigger me as much. I can enjoy the same places and events now. I hope that helps. Post by: JRT on May 16, 2015, 10:21:05 AM Yes... .I can do those things at this point and I think that DOING them broke me of the association after the fact. But I still cannot help to associate her with the same things as you: places we visited, restaurants, stores etc. As that takes place, I remember that there are things that my ex wife and I did 16 years ago that still trigger memories of her all this time later. I think that they will forever be in our minds but getting them out of our hearts is matter of time... .unfortunately. If we could forget them immediately, then WE would be BPD! :-)
