Title: Boarding Schools
Post by: dill on May 18, 2015, 03:20:38 PM
Hello, My granddaughter has been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder and ADD. My daughter and her husband have had her in several hospitals with no results. They have come to the realization that they are not equipped to deal with this child. They are looking for boarding schools that can help her. The costs are incredible. Are there any recommendations on schools and financing for this

Hi dkhill,

*welcome*

These are several members here who have opted for Residential Treatment Centers and have discussed at length their experiences (click here (https://bpdfamily.com/message_board/index.php?board=4.0;sort=views;desc)) You're right though, it can be expensive. It seems to be worth it though.

How old is she?

Hi dill,

Glad you are here looking for information to help your family.  Parenting a child with BPD is not intuitive, it takes a skill set most parents don't have so learning is essential to improving.

What behaviors of your granddaughter do her parents struggle with the most?  Choosing an RTC is a lengthy process and doing the homework to vet them is important.  Funding (other than self pay) is another lengthy process.  Here are some funding options:

Medicaid

Insurance

IEP

Low interest loans

Using college funds

Home equity loans

Has your granddaughter been in treatment?  What kind?

I look forward to hearing back from you and helping where I can.
