Title: best books to read ?
Post by: dobie on May 20, 2015, 03:30:28 AM
OK I'm looking for a reading list on BPD that deals with the high functioning types , adult immaturity , stunted emotional development , the waif type  etc

I've read "walking on eggs shells" and "search for the real self" I have "loving someone with BPD" on order as well .

Looking for stuff that deals with the "pro victim mentality" as well

Most of the stuff I've seen is about keeping a r/s alive or deals with the obvious low functioning types

Got a lot of books on order about self help for me as well  :)

Happy to read academic or more approachable works .

I'm looking to understand and correlate my experiences with my x and the disorder she has .

This isn't on BPD,  but after my last two b/u's I listened to "It's Called  A Bfeak-Up B/c It's Broken." While written for women,  the points wouldn't be lost on you at all.   It is funny and right on and very affirming that bad behavior is bad behavior.   Listening to it whenever I was in the car helped me "stay the course"  and avoid the dance of repeated get-back-together/break-up BS.  MUCH funnier to listen to than to read.    Fun and affirming.  Two things often missing in my r/s!

Really? pro-victim? What do you mean by that?  Something like this?

Reading a book called GETTING PAST YOUR BREAKUP by Susan J. Elliot.

Chapter 2:  THE RULES OF DISENGAGEMENT: GOING "NO CONTACT" WITH YOUR EX.   I'm liking this chapter so far.

Doesn't seem to be related to BPD, but everything talked about so far is right on the money as far as going toward getting over you addiction to the exes.

A little different take, here.  I read some of the books mentioned on this site that were excellent, but the one that really spoke to me was "Gifts Of Imperfection" by Brene Brown.  It helped me turn the corner on my recovery by helping me to look inward to find self love and acceptance.  Good stuff!
