Title: what's that daydreaming as a defense mechanism?
Post by: Botswana Agate on May 25, 2015, 08:37:57 PM
   Hey, everyone~~

What's that kind of daydreaming that one egages in as a defense mechanism?  On the extreme end, one actually believes the scenarios, people, and things in it are *actually* happening or have happened, and I can't think of the name!  It's driving me nuts.

I've done this to a far lesser degree, and have been working on it in therapy.  I've come to realize it's due to the unfortunate circumstance of being raised and abused by a uBPD mother with u-histrionic traits and a badly enabling father.

But what's the name of this daydreaming?  Gah, I'm going nuts, I know it has a name!

Sorry?  If you tried posting a link it didn't work.

I wanna say something like psycho-reactive daydreaming, but that's not it.

Could it be maladaptive daydreaming? I just did a Google search for it, so that might not be it.

You're welcome BA. I had never heard of it before, but it strikes a bit of a chord with me.

I often escaped into fantasy as a child and still sometimes do.
