Title: My Mother has BPD Post by: Alouise on June 20, 2015, 05:41:54 PM Hello.
I am 16 years old and my Mother was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder when I was 14. Growing up my Mother has never been like other parents, she has always found it hard to be around people but its only recently after she left a bad job that she has worsened. The past six or so years are when she has fully began to show signs of BPD. I am the middle of three sisters the eldest aged 18 and the youngest 13, however my Mother can only ever depend on me or my Father to do things for her. If she does leave the house, which would be rarely and most probably only for a doctors appointment, she cannot leave without myself or my Father. Over the past month or so I have been doing my GCSEs. I'm don't find exams easy so typically the time was stressful for me, on top of that I had recently been diagnosed with a form of anxiety by my doctor. However, I finished my exams and that was that. At the end of them my art teacher had put together an art exhibition to allow parents to come and see my years art work before it was sent off for moderation. My Mother wanted to come along and see my work, thus would be the first time she had come to my school, for my purposes, in the five years I had been there. Of course I was wary as I usually am when I go places with my Mother as she has tendency's to flip out at the slightest of things. I think she may have realised this because moments before we left she asked me ":)o you want me to go?". I told her I did, because I wanted her to be happy, but honestly I didn't even want to go myself. However, half way down the road she shouted at my Father to stop the car, she jumped out and went back into the house deciding not to go anymore. My father then angrily asks me "Right. What happened today to make her do that". In my opinion it feels like he is blaming me. This happened on two days ago, since then both my Mother and Father have barely spoken to me and I feel as if everything is all my fault. I know what my Mother is lime and how she acts but never has she not spoken to me for this long before, they both are making me feel so bad and I don't have a clue as to what I have done. Title: Re: My Mother has BPD Post by: beefree on June 21, 2015, 12:06:12 AM I'm sorry that family issues put a damper on your art exhibition. That's a pretty big deal, so congrats on it! :)
Something to remember is that often with those with BPD, what they are saying/doing may have very little to do with anything you have said or done... .it probably has more to do with what is emotionally going on inside your Mom. No matter what Dad says, you aren't responsible for how mom handles her emotions, only how you handle your own. Wishing you all the best.
