Title: Mom has BPD
Post by: nomoreeggs on June 22, 2015, 08:33:17 PM
Hello. This is my first post and I'm not exactly sure what to say. I found this website tonight because I was looking for some support after a particularly nasty situation with my mom. My parents divorced two years ago, and my dad is dating someone new. He invited her to Father's Day at his house, my mom found out, and now has decided that all her kids (I'm the oldest of 4) have completely betrayed her by not telling her as soon as we found out. I'm sort of at a point of not caring. At least, I'd like to be, but obviously seeking out help/support means I'm not. I just checked out the steps in the Survivors Guide, and I think I'm probably at a Step 2. I've known for a while that I was emotionally (and rarely physically) abused as a child, but I'm not sure where to go from there. (Step 3, I guess.) Anyways, hello.

Hi nomoreeggs

Welcome to bpdfamily  Since you are here I assume you think your mother might have BPD. This is a difficult disorder and I am sorry that you were abused as a child and are still dealing with your mother's difficult behavior. How have your siblings responded to your mother declaring you all have betrayed her?

You have already found your way to the tools to the right of this message board. They can really help you get a better understanding of BPD and how being raised by a BPD mother can affect you.

You say probably being on step two of the Surviors' Guide. In what ways was your mom emotionally (and sometimes also physically) abusive towards you as a child?

Hi nomoreeggs (great username!)

It's a heavy blow to be drawn into family dysfunction, especially if a family member has emotional instability. Are there particular reasons you think she has BPD? What kind of things does she do that make you think that? besides of course such an emotional reaction to your father's situation.
