Title: The Best Birthday Gift Ever
Post by: Forever to Roam on July 04, 2015, 02:07:36 PM
Several months ago I went fully NC with my parents. After the letter I wrote them I fully expected my choice to end contact not to be respected - I fully expected and feared what repercussions might come after I made my boundaries as clear as I possibly could. As my birthday approached, the anxiety mounted, and I didn't knew what to expect save some form of retribution. My birthday came and passed. Not a word, package, text, email, call, or anything; nothing to set off panic attacks and weeping sessions, for the first time in seven years. The nothing has been the best gift I have ever received for any holiday, let alone my birthday!

I do not know if the silence is respect for my request, or something they think is revenge. I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt, but either way, I am so grateful... .Best birthday gift ever! :)

Oh, boy. Do your parents sound like mine.  See?  It is that upping the vengeance thing they have.  We will show her by doing just as she wishes. We will leave her alone and no one can point a finger at us.  Go with it and save yourself but don't be surprised when they try to make it backfire or if they never do.  It is quite possible you have parents that are more narcissistic than borderline and would rather sacrifice a relationship with you rather than face the truth in any small increment.  Mine are.  Yep, both.

Thanks Shields! Thanks Alone, much as I wish others didn't also suffer the same, it is comforting to know I'm not alone. Isn't it sad the way the times that are supposed to be most filled with joy get twisted into the most miserable? But not this once.
