Title: Even "kids" now about strings attached Post by: todayistheday on August 20, 2015, 09:58:58 PM Saw my college sophomore nephew last night. As usual, I slipped him a little cash ("just between you and me money" for which he was grateful.
It occurred to me that ever since he's been in college, my uBPD Mom, his grandma, has offered him cash (in front of everyone) and he refused saying he didn't need any. He's never refused a gift from me. Ours are always private and still wouldn't expect a poor college student to NOT need money. I got "just between you and me" gifts from my Grandma when I was in college. I'm sure my sister did too. And I hope that my nephew continues and passes those forward to another generation. He's not been told that, it's not a string, just a hope of mine. Obviously, he knows that with his uBPD Grandma, the cash isn't worth what it would cost him in the long run! Or he's embarrassed. She offers them in front of everyone to say "hey look at me" for the show. But being a 19 year old college boy, I doubt that much embarrasses him. I think it's the "strings". |
