Title: I think my daughter has BPD
Post by: BigJ2525 on August 22, 2015, 11:24:59 AM
My daughter is 36 and has acted in what appeared to be an irrational manner for many years. Unable to make / keep friends, continually fights with her husband (he is thrown out then allowed back again and again) sometimes violence is involved. She has taken an overdose more than once. I only discovered this condition on the net a few days ago but she ticks all the boxes, but here is the rub trying to get help for her. I am seeking a consultant psychiatrist to confirm on not that she has BPD. This is not easy even on a private footing. We live in the Glasgow area in Scotland. Does anyone know of a good psychiatrist in the area?

Hello BigJ2525

Welcome to the Parenting Board!

Glad to have you here as a new member and sorry to learn that your daughter has been struggling for so long.  Having some kind of idea of what she struggles with is imperative to learning to cope and move forward for both of you.

I'm sorry I don't have any recommendations for doctors in Scotland.  Maybe searching for one that has experience with personality disorders in particular could narrow your search?

We have much info here about the disorder and how to cope, communicate, and reclaim ourselves.  The Tools and Lessons in the right sidebar is a good collection of this information.  We as members are here to support you and answer any questions you  might have to the best of our ability.
