Title: Not coping
Post by: lillygirl66 on September 08, 2015, 03:46:37 PM
My son is 25 with BPD I also think he has other problems but im not an expert! I have got him to see doctor and to get referred back to mental health team because I'm at breaking point, I've always fought his corner but the last venting to me I felt traumatized by it and at this point I'm so hurt what he said to me. Some days I can cope but I'm not lately my husband is ill also it's getting to much. My son was diagnosed about 4 years ago but obviously it's been a lot longer that we knew something wasn't right.

Hi lillygirl66,

I'm glad that you are here sharing some of your concerns and your story though sorry for what brings you here.

I'm also sorry to hear that your husband is ill.  Being the emotional caretaker, primary source of support and parent to a child/adult child with BPD is very taxing and draining.  To also have a spouse that is ill to look after and be concerned about can feel over the top stressful.  My heart goes out to you as I have been in the same place before.

It's one thing to listen to our adult kids vent about something or someone else to us... .it's a whole different story when they are raging at us.

Does your son live with you?  You said he has been referred back to a treatment team... .what kind of therapy has he participated in previously?  Did it seem to help?
