Title: What now?
Post by: Mom101 on September 19, 2015, 06:35:02 PM
Hi!

I am a single mom and my 18 year old daughter has just diagnosed with BPD. She was hospitalized for only one week,  with my insurance paying only for a three day stay and then her first therapy session schduled for three weeks out. So frustrated by the entire experience and by the way the mental health community has treated us.

Just trying to keep her level until her first doctors visit has been exhausting!

The past year has been a whirlwind and we both knew something was very wrong but no one seems to know what to do or want to help us in any way that is actually beneficial for us.

Just would like some guildence from others out there who have already had to deal with all the red tape and may have some good advice for me how to get the most effective help as possible. Thanks!

Hello Mom101   Wow, can I relate to your story.  It's been about five years ago that my daughter was hospitalized and diagnosed with BPD.  Like you, it was like pulling teeth to get the resources and help she needed and the waits seemed forever.  Thank goodness, she has you to help and you will get frustrated and angry and a whole lot of other emotions along the way.  Many of us have been there and are here to support you the best way we can.  You might find some of the tools on the right hand side of this website helpful and I would encourage you to take some time to read through them.  They really helped me.  All I can tell you, is be an advocate for you and your daughter, if someone says No, as to talk to their boss.  Also, please take care of yourself---it is so hard dealing with this, your child and keeping everything else going.  I am anxious to hear more from you.  Please know that you are not alone.
