Title: He thinks he has BPD
Post by: MSNYC on November 07, 2015, 08:53:30 AM
We have gone from NC to LC the last couple weeks, after breaking up a couple months ago. When we did break up, I mentioned that he had some really disturbing/scary behavior and calling it "manic" was inaccurate, that I thought maybe those traits were closer to borderline and he should see someone who could help him figure it out and treat it.

Last night I got a text from him saying "I read up on Borderline, and it definitely sounds like me. Crazy." I can't tell if that was sarcastic/self-deprecatory or an honest reckoning, but regardless, that feels really strange to know he's considering he may have the disorder. What happens now? What happens when a pwBPD recognizes that they have it? Or what a partner/ex partner suggests they might?

It all depends on the individual. Some may seek help and work on it. Others may see it then dismiss it.

Hi MSNYC,

it is good to see he has some insight. It would be great if he seeks help as BPD can be quite manageable with therapy. I can't tell you "What happens now?".

But you can decide what you do next.  :)
