Title: Preparing the family
Post by: ChangingOfTides on November 09, 2015, 04:14:18 AM

My BPDw is also suffering from Bipolar, and she has reached a burnout stage in therapy and life, after a suicide attempt. After this trauma, she is avoiding her own emotions now, slowly turned cold and rational for the past months and is sinking deeper and deeper in depression and BPD rage, while being extremely controlling in family life.

The chances are growing every day she may have to be submitted for some time to a psych ward, and my question is how you possibly prepare your family for this... .

Anyone have experiences to share in this?

Yes, I been down this path a few times.  My small kids I tell mommy is sick and going to the hospital to get better.  Older kids who understand I just tell straight out but sensitively.  It's probably no surprise to them.  I'm straight up with external family and folks who can help.  Much better if admission is somewhat planned.  There have been times I've had to take weeks off of work due to surprise ER admissions which adds stress to me.  If you need it, line up help ahead of time.
