Title: Hello. New here.
Post by: acuwoman on December 13, 2015, 11:13:53 PM
Hi There,

I have an aging mother who has been diagnosed with BPD. She has alienated most people in her life, so it is only me and one sister who still has contact. Navigating the aging parent issue is pretty tough.

Hi acuwoman   and welcome... .you have definitely come to the right place.

Navigating an aging parent, especially with BPD is extremely difficult. Remember to take care of you first while trying to figure out what kind of relationship you plan to continue to have with your mom. They do their best to try and manipulate us - but it is empowering when we realize just how much control we can have over the situation with them - and how we respond to them.

Hi welcome I am also new to the forum! Hopefully we can both find support through others going through the same thing. Be sure and take care of yourself also.

Hi acuwoman

I would like to join tenacity and maddnessreturns in welcoming you here

BPD is a complex disorder and it can be quite tough dealing with a BPD parent. Your mother has been diagnosed with BPD, when did that happen? Is she getting any targeted treatment for her BPD? (or has she perhaps in the past?)

What would you say are your mother's behaviors which you find most difficult to deal with?

I have an undiagnosed BPD mother who's also elderly now and the aging does indeed add another layer of complexity to navigating this situation.

Take care and I hope to read more of your story later
