Title: Excellent Surveillance Camera Post by: Duck_Borders on December 18, 2015, 08:58:41 AM For those of you who are in the unfortunate situation of needing to protect yourself (or your kids) from irrational, violent, or other suspect behaviour, and are looking to get surveillance cameras, I just found a sweet camera for a very reasonable price.
FLIR FX Cameras - at Best Buy for $150 USD I've played around with over 5 different brands lately trying to find the best fit. Everything from a $50 option to a $400 option. I found FLIR to have the best options, most functionality/flexibility, and best bang for buck. You can use this camera as a normal IP/security camera or you can detach this camera from it's main base (it has a built in battery) and use it similar to a gopro or a dash cam for a vehicle. I would rate Dropcam/Nest second, but still far from FLIR because 1) FLIR has a free cloud storage option and 2) FLIR has local storage capability (Micro SD cards to save footage) 3) Dropcam doesn't have portability option. It's also super easy to setup and has the best app (iOS/Android) and browser interface I've seen. (They all claim to have this, but most of them are really bad) You can set this camera to record based on motion detection, and it can save to the cloud as well as to the SD card in the camera. There are a lot of other cool options/functions I'm not listing. FYI - I am in no way affiliated with FLIR, I just wanted to share something useful that I've put a lot of time into finding the best option (for me at least). Feel free to reply to this or PM me if you want more specific advice on cameras - I've put a lot of time into figuring this out. Good luck! Title: Re: Excellent Surveillance Camera Post by: ForeverDad on December 18, 2015, 12:49:05 PM There's an outdoor version with infrared lighting at a slightly higher price. The specs state they work with SDHC and SDXC up to 64 GB. I suspect larger capacity cards could be used as they become available and affordable — I just bought some 128 GB MicroSD cards — so possibly it's only been tested up to 64 GB.
Also, they have a page on their website to sign up for a FLIR FX Daily Giveaway. |
