Title: Child support for DD with BPD Post by: Desperatemom2 on January 11, 2016, 03:34:10 PM Divorced mom with a 20 year old daughter diagnosed with BPD. She struggled starting in grade 11, barely graduated grade 12, but entered university anyway. Struggled with that for 2 years and then gave up to try something else. Now living back home( was on university campus) and upgrading her bio and chem marks for an LPN course. father wants to terminate child support, but I feel because she is still in school full time and is dependent on me due to the BPD, that it should continue. He is taking me to court to fight this. Anyone have an "adult child" and still receiving child support due to the BPD?

Welcome! I'm not in your situation, but I share your view, if your daughter is motivated to succeed she deserves to be supported, she is still very young and likely still learning how she can manage her life. Does she have long term goals? Is she engaging in treatment? What's her father's argument against continuing financial support at this point? My understanding is that this is support for the child even if the mom is working full time. This is about the dad being responsible for his child. Maybe his share could change if mom gets out of school and starts working. How do you understand this? qcr |
