Title: Premature or small for dates
Post by: APR on January 13, 2016, 05:55:52 PM
Hi all. My son was induced at 36 weeks because he was what doctors called small for dates - essentially - my placenta had given up and he was "better out than in". I have read that premature birth can lead to personality disorders. Was anyone else's baby Premature?

From what I understand, although there's been some conjecture about this, studies to date have been inconclusive and conflicting at best.

It's an interesting question and I've never heard that suggestion before.

I was born at 34 weeks back in the 1960's and barely made it and don't have any symptoms of BPD. My son with BPD tried to be born at 28 weeks and I was put on bed rest and given all kinds of drugs to stop the labor. he was eventually born at 38 weeks and has a form of cerebral palsy.

So who knows? :) 36 weeks is pretty good.

There are a million reasons why people develop personality disorders and we don't yet have the science to back any of these theories up. I wouldn't beat yourself up about it. :)
