Title: How was your BPD ex at the workplace?
Post by: Itstopsnow on January 30, 2016, 12:27:18 PM
I was just wondering is it common for people with BPD to not be able hold jobs long. Even if it's their dream job. I've heard of some who can work great for decades. And I've heard the more structured a job is the better they tend to be at it. But what happens when they are going through stressful time? I don't want my ex to lose his dream job. Even though he hurt me. Because Also I just don't know what else he would be able to do. He's a teacher but he told me once he yells at the kids . Like he yells at me. Because that is the only way we all will listen to him. I don't know . Maybe he shouldn't work with young kids. But I still feel worried a little for him . He is very dependant but has a rage ability that might get the best of him. I put up with it a long time . Others might not

The longest my ex held a job for was 4 years. Recently she's been staying around a year in a job. She's never been sacked - she simply devalues a job the way she does a person and then seamlessly moves onto another one!   I'm sure there are high-functioning pwBPD who can hold onto jobs longer term - perhaps those where they are in a position of authority and thus able to exercise control over their environment?

Working with kids does sound a recipe for disaster though as kids will invariably try the patience of a Saint!

She was/is considered a great employee. She is always on time, dedicated, hard working, and working two jobs building a life. She seems to be very different then many of others though I have no understanding as to why. I know she's accepted a new job to begin in  the next couple of weeks as an office manager and will keep one of the other two jobs, at a winery. That one fits her needs, attention and validation from people (Especially men.
