I am new and wanting support for parenting a teen daughter with BPD. She is in crisis right now. She has been hospitalized in the past but it doesn't seem to help. Have any parents had any successes in residential treatment facilities and which ones. I'm so afraid to choose the wrong one for her. Thank you. Welcome to the site! I'm sorry to learn that your d is in crisis. This is so scary for us moms. What kind of crisis is she in at this time? Hospitalizations are for stabilizing and making a follow up treatment plan... .and sometimes testing and medication evaluations. Unless they are long term stays there are rarely long term benefits, it is a starting point for a better future. Has your d been diagnosed with BPD? How old is she? Before we can really choose a long term inpatient facility we have to understand the disorder and how it manifests in our kiddos. Once we have that understanding we can begin to look for a facility that has a flexible program to meet our child's needs and work closely with family. My daughter went into RTC at age 13, we chose the facility ourselves (doing all the research and visits) rather than use an Educational Consultant. My daughter was there 10 months and it made all the difference for her and our family. She is 19 now. I look forward to hearing back from you and helping where I can, you are among friends who have traveled the road ahead of you. lbj Title: Re: teen daughter with BPD possible bi polar in crisis Post by: Bright Day Mom on April 04, 2016, 05:05:08 PM I too have a teen d w/BPD and bp and had multiple (5) crisis hospitalizations inside a 16 month period of time before turning to residential. We did it all, PHP, IOP, w/in home counseling, therapeutic high school and ultimately now residential placement w/her alternative high school.
We went thru a county CMO who coordinated all of our visits and really led the way for us. Our state pays for her residential room / board and school district pays for her education and transportation. It has only been two months, but the difference is remarkable. Our family is changing as a whole and we are all learning to communicate more effectively. It's all very overwhelming, but you can do it!
