Title: My daughter Post by: SLR on May 03, 2016, 12:42:39 PM My daughter has struggled with her emotions since she was 2 yrs old. She has difficulty with almost every relationship and I never know where her emotions will be on a daily basis.
I was just introduced to this diagnosis last night and I looked it up on helpguide.org. It was very eye opening and described her to a T. This is somewhat a relief to see that this is an actual condition and at the same time I am heartbroken to see her struggles in bold print. I have not attempted to share this with her and not at all sure if I should or how to in fear of increasing her difficulty. Her father, siblings and I always seem to walk on egg shells with her and don't know how to handle her, vacillating between being very sensitive and supportive to being frustrated and angry. I am desperate and open to any suggestions you may have for me. Thank you! Title: Re: My daughter Post by: lbjnltx on May 03, 2016, 05:48:58 PM Hello SLR and welcome to the Parenting Board!
I'm sorry to hear that your d has the traits of BPD. How old is she and is this a diagnoses from her therapist or psychiatrist? I too was relieved to receive a diagnoses and was glad to finally find help available for my daughter/myself/my family. This website was where I learned about the ins and outs of the disorder and what I could do to help her/myself/my family. My d was dx at 12 with emerging BPD, she had previously been dx with ODD. Through inpatient testing the emerging BPD was confirmed and anxiety and MDD (major depressive disorder) were also added. She is 19 now and has made tremendous strides even though major life events occurred. I am so proud of her and her hard work. I hope to learn more about you, your daughter and your family and help where I am able. I look forward to hearing back from you soon. lbjnltx |
