Title: Adult female daughter with Bi-Polar- Personality disorder
Post by: blueskies11 on May 16, 2016, 12:22:58 PM
I need to know how to help my daughter.    She's a 45 year old woman who can't keep a job or pay her bills.  I don't want to enable her with money (that I need for my bills) but don't want her to feel abandoned?  She's stuck without a car in Maine and no job prospects.  Most frustrating.

Hello blueskys,

Welcome to the Parenting Board.

I'm so sorry to learn that your d is away from you and has no way to support herself.  It is our natural instinct as parents to provide help to our children no matter their age.  Our fears of the consequences of not helping can sometimes cause us to do what is beyond our capacity financially.  This will not help in the long run as you know (your use of the word "enable" suggests this).

Does your d45 ask you to rescue her?  How do you respond?

Is she seeking any kind of solutions outside of being rescued by others?
