Title: Credit freeze or fraud alert?
Post by: adventurer on June 02, 2016, 09:34:36 AM
I'm going to set up either a credit freeze or fraud alert with the main credit agencies so my wife can't take out a line of credit in my name.

Has anyone done this and can you recommend freeze vs. alert?

I will probably do freeze because it is more secure, absolutely impossible to access the credit unless you unfreeze.  Downside is cost and any difficulty unfreezing temporarily should I actually need it (I will need to buy a car this year - not sure if paying cash or doing payments).

Advantage of fraud alert is, it's easier, free, I will get notified if anyone tries to take out credit (with freeze I wouldn't hear about it).  Disadvantage is it's not always honored 100% and could be ignored?

Any input?
