I am wondering if there are other parents with teens whose IEP team has recommended residential placement for their child? My daughter has been to short term residential treatment at Willow Springs (in Nevada- A total nightmare) and at Roger's Memorial in Wisconsin (life changing program-can't say enough positive things about it). <br/>:)espite continued therapy at outpatient DBT, she has had 2 more attempts and is failing high school. She has 30/250 credits needed and is starting her junior year. Her IQ was tested and is 137! I have hired an education consultant to recommend schools because I know the school district's priority is their own bottom line, not my daughter's well being. In previous posts you have mentioned your daughter's suicidal ideation, her cutting and the actual suicide attempts she has made. This is very difficult to deal with. She is is still receiving DBT, but unfortunately has made 2 more attempts. Given her history, I am assuming you are talking about suicide attempts here, is this correct? Is her suicidal ideation being addressed in her continued therapy at outpatient DBT? Our IEP team did not recommend it; however her admitting psych, social worker, CMO and parents / child did. Believe me it was our last resort, but the only option left after 5 hospitalizations in 14 months, PHP, IOP, DBT, @ home therapist and a therapeutic HS. We believe (daughter included) RTC SAVED HER LIFE! The school districts are responsible for the education component as well as transportation to/from. D had already been enrolled in therapeutic high school. Once she was placed out of home, it was just a matter of our district aligning the transportation. Dealing with school, lawyers, drs, etc can be confusing, but there are many of us who have walked the walk... .let us know if we can help.
