Title: How to respond to BPD feeling alone and saying "I Hate You"
Post by: fsoduck on July 05, 2016, 03:56:00 AM
This topic is probably buried somewhere in the boards - I have been here a long time.

I am wondering how I can respond in an affirmative way to my BPD spouse who is "feeling alone" and abandoned b/c both my DD and I are away for the summer.

She just texted me to say how alone she feels, she is alone b/c it is my fault and that she hates me.  I am not generally good at responding to these kinds of things and generally ignore them - at least the last part.  But it never does any good.  Any suggestions how to respond, if at all?  Thanks.

" I am thinking of you, and looking forward to seeing you again soon". You want to stay away from invalidating her by explaining reasons why she shouldn't miss you. Don't get into debating the hate/blaming message.

It must feel terrible to feel so alone.

I would feel sad if I felt totally alone too.

In reality I still love you and will be home soon and like military spouses say "away never alone".

And it hurts me to be told I am hated.
