Title: Hello There... Post by: jmunger on July 19, 2016, 02:56:25 PM I'm in the process of locating a good residential treatment center that uses DBT for my 25 year old daughter who has been diagnosed with BPD, Major Depressive Disorder and PTSD. She has struggled with it all her life, with the first strong evidence of it during the third grade. She is bright and articulate, unfortunately very high functioning, since she appears to be fine to most people. Those of you familiar with this type of situation know the battles she fights daily, and that her tendency is to seem to function at a high level when interacting with others while not functioning well at all in the privacy of her own home.

I hope you find a residential treatment centre for your daughter soon. My 27 year daughter who is a quiet BPD was diagnosed 12 months ago following a number of hospitalisations. She lives at home and recently commenced DBT as an outpatient after waiting on the list for 12 months.
Small steps to recovery. She says she wants to recover though has been recently overwhelmed with depression that did not lift till she had a holiday last week. She often says she has to 'keep on going', and her therapist agreed that a is great mantra! Good to meet you. WDx Title: Re: Hello There... Post by: livednlearned on August 01, 2016, 10:30:56 AM Hi jmunger,
I'm so sorry I'm just seeing your post now. I'm not familiar with residential therapy tho this Lesson on inpatient/outpatient services might have good information for you: https://bpdfamily.com/message_board/index.php?topic=114267.msg12588412#msg12588412 There is this poll on RTC too: https://bpdfamily.com/message_board/index.php?topic=206109.msg12288138#msg12288138 Maybe Blaise Aguirre's book on Adolescence and BPD might also be helpful? I understand your D is 25, though if I remember correctly there is good information about residential therapy in the back of the book with other resources, and maybe even a whole chapter (sorry, my memory of what each of the books offer has blurred together... .) There is also lbjnltx's experience with a RTC for her teen daughter that may give you an idea of what you can expect: https://bpdfamily.com/message_board/index.php?topic=120563.msg1188708#msg1188708 And last, I found the book Buddha and the Borderline to be so helpful in understanding a first-person account of a BPD sufferer's walk through treatment. I cannot remember the author tho she describes DBT in a way that helped me understand what it is like in practice. Hope this helps. We're here to walk with you, you're not alone :) |
