Title: What would lead a BPD To have a major breakdown and end up at the psych ward?
Post by: Rayban on October 07, 2016, 03:32:28 PM
This might seem like a weird question,  but its just one of those that popped up after remembering a conversation with her.  She admitted it happened twice in her late teens but she refused to go into details, and I refused to question her about it.

I realize it's a spectrum disorder and no two people are alike.  I'm just curious has to what could bring on such a break down when they usually are able to keep things together, at least on the outside.

Also wouldn't an event like this spur on getting treatment? My ex hasn't she prefers to believe her secondary bipolar is the main cause for her behaviour.  It's probably more widely acceptable to account for being bI polar then telling people you have a personality disorder.

For my BPDxbf, it was the death of his grandmother the first time. The second was his first wife leaving him unexpectedly in late teens. LW x

wow Rayban are you sure we didn't date the same woman? My ex was sent to a mental hospital for 2 months after my mom broke us up. Now after my ex found me on FB she it took her 2 1/2 years for me to take her bait. She told me she was diagnosed with being Bipolar. I belived her. She also told me she was in and out of mental hospitals in Canada. She did t say why. Now I don't know if I belive her with that or it was just a lie to gain my  sympathy as she had told me   Herendous lies about being molested and raped when it wasn't even true. I would think that they get locked up in mental hospitals bc of maybe suicidal tendencies. That's my thought.

BPDh has been hospitalized twice now, in June and August. My understanding is he is still undiagnosed BPD. I'm not sure it matters a whole lot - he's diagnosed as major depression and I hear that's so insurance covers it. Both times followed suicide threats that police became involved with assuring his welfare. he had been getting progressively worse since his mom got sick and even more after she died. When he didn't get a job he was hoping for, that sent him further over. Finally I said I was overwhelmed and he left and threatened suicide. Next time was perhaps after a realization we weren't getting back together. In any case, I'm done.

I don't know the answer.  But past experience says it could literally be anything and that terrifies me. Not if but when. I have been as nc as possible with two young boys so I stay as far away with her day to day. I have my kids mostly but when they are with her I try not to think about it but because there is nothing we can do to prevent it.

Stress... .problems at work and need a break, doing too many things he felt guilty over, suicidal or when overloaded on drugs or alcohol.
