Title: how to help daughter whose husband shows signs of BPD
Post by: thinker on November 04, 2016, 10:29:59 AM
how do i help my daughter who is dealing with a spouse that shows signs of BPD:  they have been married 3 years and not a month goes by without a major blow up by him.  My daughter is now starting to think that she is to blame and it is her fault that the problems arise.

Hi thinker,

*welcome*

I can imagine you are worried about your daughter. It's hard to look on when those we love, especially our children, are suffering.

Have you thought of showing your daughter this site or some of the information on it? Reading around the Boards and the Resource Materials is possible without actually joining, if your daughter isn't ready to take that step yet. You can recommend this link: https://bpdfamily.com/content/what-borderline-personality-disorder

Often reading other member stories can be even more helpful than general lists of symptoms and so on. That's where a lot of people have moments of "oh wow, me too!" that can be quite enlightening and helpful. So perhaps encourage her to have a look around the site and especially the Discussion Boards and see if anything resonates for her.

Do you think that might be a good way to start things off?

Thank you for your reply.  I haven't told her about the site, but she did stay with us over the weekend and read the book.
The Essential Family Guide to Borderline Personality Disorder: I am hoping that she puts some of the tactics into place now that she is back home.
