Title: TriCare Woes- Can't Find Residential Treatment Center for 19 year old daughter Post by: Lily1965 on November 19, 2016, 11:03:28 PM It seems as though Tri-Care Insurance is extremely limited in providing residential treatment center coverage unless someone is under 18 years old or has a drug/alcohol problem. My daughter is 19 years old and does not have a drug/alcohol addiction.
She has been diagnosed with BPD, and since 2013 has been in 5 acute treatment facilities for suicidal ideation and two suicide attempts. We are desperate to find a residential facility that specializes in treatment for BPD. We cannot afford self-pay programs. There are no outpatient DBT programs in our city or within reasonable daily driving distance. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I'm sorry you are dealing with this desperate situation gaining access to treatment for your daughter. Many here relate to what you are going through, you are not alone. I'm in the UK so not conversant with the US medical system and options though be assured someone who is will come by soon. Are you in the US? If so, you need to start within your state, start @ your county level. Our medical insurance does not have any residential benefits at all. We are in NJ and our D16 went thru a residential program recently. What we have found was some were better than others, but there were good options and it didn't cost our family a dime! I am not sure what services will be available since your D is over 18, but there must be something. A call to the county mental health services office may be a good place to start. Another suggestion would be to contact your local NAMI office. I had to look into multiple places for my daughter who is not BPD, but they thought perhaps she was. Meridell -- it's FANTASTIC! My daughter did not go there, but I flew out there from Georgia for a visit and it's highly recommended and Tricare pays for it. I sat and talked with a girl that had been there for 3.5 months and she talked about where she came from and I saw where she was then and it was truly miraculous. Many spend an average of 5 months there. Highly recommended by the psychiatrist my daughter saw who once practiced in the town and had multiple patients go there. I just cannot recall the name of the town right now!
