Title: I am a parent dealing with 18 year old daughter with BPD Post by: Exhausted mom on November 20, 2016, 08:46:01 AM Our family has been trying to cope with my daughter and all her "stuff". It's been 5 years of various counsellors, psychiatrists and ups and downs trying to figure out how to help my daughter. She seems to fit criteria for BPD diagnosis, finally got diagnosis in the last few months. I drive my daughter to all her appointments but don't get feedback from docs send counsellors. Mostly just want my money and encourage my daughter to keep coming in for help. It's exhausting and frustrating. She's the oldest of 4, and it's heartbreaking to see her struggle and not get better. My husband and i are at the end of our rope. I feel isolated and helpless.

I am sorry your family is dealing with so much; many of us here have been in similar positions. Since she has only received a confirmed dx in the last few months, please give the counselors/ docs add'l time to provide game plan.
Having 4 children w/18 being the oldest must be exhausting in itself, toss in a mental health challenge, and it can seem hopeless. But it's not, please do your best to stay HOPEFUL! Is your D currently on any meds (mood stabilizers, etc)? We have found family counseling very helpful, because these health challenges not only affect the patient, but the entire family. Keep posting as just getting thoughts out can be therapeutic in itself. Bright Day Mom |
