Title: New to the group- spouse may have undiagnosed disorders
Post by: OmGirl108 on December 15, 2016, 11:27:14 AM
Hi Everyone,  Thanks for having me.  I look forward to the both giving and receiving support.  I am not yet sure where I fit in.  I have a spouse with diagnosed major depression (treatment resistant) and also GAD.  Not responding well to meds and currently not seeing providers (MD or Talk Therapist).  I started seeing a therapist to help cope. We are very concerned about narcissistic personality disorder and perhaps others based on reported and witnessed behaviors. Very upset by this.

Welcome OmGirl108:
Sorry to hear about the problems with your husband.  It is common for people with a personality disorder to have issues with depression and/or anxiety.

How long did your spouse try meds?    It can take some trial and error to get a med that is helpful.  Most all antidepressants take some time to kick in (generally a minimum of 30 days to start seeing some benefits, then may need to up the dosage over a period of months).  Also, it is common that there are side effects.  Many of the most annoying side effects resolve over time.  Some people quit taking meds, without giving them the time they need to really work.

Did your husband see a psychiatrist or a primary care doctor for his meds?  What is the longest period of time he tried a particular med, before quitting?

There is a lot of good information on this website.  Some of the links to the right of this post are a good place to start.  What are some of the current problems you have with interacting with your husband?
