Title: Introduction
Post by: Realtalk on December 31, 2016, 06:39:55 PM
Hi,

I'm an adult who feels their mother has BPD. We've had the craziest, most tumultuous relationship. I kind of thought she had BPD, Bipolar Disorder, or substance abuse issues but after speaking with my therapist, really feel it's BPD. It feels as though a weight has been lifted off my chest and in hind sight many things are now starting to make sense. I'm glad to have found an online support group and am interested in hearing the thoughts and stories of others in similar situations.

Hi Realtalk

Welcome to our online community. Having a disordered parent can definitely be quite challenging. What would you say are the hardest aspects of the relationship you have with your mother?

I can relate to that feeling as though a weight has been lifted from your shoulders. I felt similarly when I first learned about BPD, it was very liberating and validating, yet also felt quite surreal.

Could you give some examples of things that are now starting to make sense to you after learning about BPD?

Take care and I hope to read more of your story later

Hi, Realtalk.

It helped me a lot to be able to put a name to my mother's behavior, too. I'm glad you're feeling a sense of relief. It's great that you're looking after yourself and have support from a therapist, too. We'd love to hear more of your story when you feel ready.

Wishing you peace,

PF
