Title: New Years Eve and hope for a better tomorrow
Post by: michel71 on December 31, 2016, 08:23:43 PM
Hello my friends. For some of you it is already 2017 so HAPPY NEW YEAR. For others, like myself, 2017 is just hours away.

As I sit here alone, the first NYE alone since 2011 ( save once), I am not with my uBPDw. Off and on all day I have been checking in with myself, feeling the feelings and generally I can say that I am "okay".

What I have now is what I haven't had since 2014. Peace. Solitude. I am enjoying that and can be nothing less than grateful for it. That is a positive. Tonight the lights of my Christmas tree are on, candles are burning, the house is still. The only noise comes from the slight hum of the heater and the much needed, comforting rain. My trusted dog is by my side softly snoring. It feels... .good.

This past year has been a struggle for many of us. A better year than last for some, a worse year than ever for others. Either way, it is over soon.

Tomorrow, the first day of 2017, brings hope for the future. For those of us who are sad tonight, grieving, numb, angry, scared, or filled with a variety of emotions, some even conflicting, let us acknowledge what we do have: a choice to make our lives better and not worse. A choice to be respected, loved and valued for who we are, not what we do for other people. As bad as things can get, we still have ourselves. And by that I mean a voice. The power to say "yes" or "no" or " I'll think about it" and that's a mighty power indeed. So let's own it and love ourselves first. We matter.

Wishing all of you, my dear brothers and sisters, the very best of 2017 filled with hope, happiness and love.

Wow Michel, what a heartfelt wish and beautifully-articulated post. Bring on the hope, happiness, and love for us all. I'm with you; 2017 is going to be a good one.

As for you, TammyM, you can be sure that you are not alone tonight. Here's to better days. I believe they are just around the corner. --Monty

Bravo to you, and Happy New Year. I also spent my first NYE alone. I decided not to go to a party. I made myself a few snacks to eat and binge-watched Netflix in front of the fireplace. It was peaceful, and I was content.

That is such an apt reflection. I think I forgot who I was in my relationship and the fact that I was not loved, and that I lost the power to give an honest answer. Thank you for this. Happy new year Michel and I wish you the best for 2017.
