Accepting that they have fault and that they are to blame is unbearable for them to accept, that's why they project so much. Unfortunately, Cluster B personality disorders, on which BPD is classified into, don't really have the ability to see that they have a problem.

It's like a primitive self defense system, they can't be at fault because they wouldn't be able to handle it. It would be emotional self harm to think they are at fault for something.
