My daughter was diagnosed with OCD W/Intrusive thoughtsabout 15 yrs ago. She was 24. However, I believe the OCD began when puberty began when she was 12. I didn't understand any of it at the time. It just seemed like typical preteen dramatics and the fact that it took her 6 hours to get ready to go anywhere and that it took her all weekend to clean her room because she had to dump the clothes dresser drawers on her bed in addition to everything else in the room so she could clean it, when really all it needed was a 15 minute once over, it never crossed my mind that she could have a mental issue or two. Sometimes we even made fun of the fact everything took her so long and sometimes we even left without her because she wasn't ready to go... Well, 12 years down the road, she called me from North Dakota in hysterics, I couldn't even understand her.. So, I told my husband that she probably just needed a "mommy" hug and I left colorado the next morning and headed up there to fix her! Well, I gave her a big long hug and when I stepoed back and looked into her eyes, all I saw was sheer terror in those green eyes, It scared the hell out of me.. Well I wasn't sure what to do because it was around 8:30 on a friday night so we had to wait till monday to go to the doctor... So basically I gave her otc sleep aid all weekend, waking her up long enough to eat and shower and then back to sleep until monday morning finally came around. (I forgot to mention that she had a 6 yr old son at the time,my grandson) and her husband worked a 100 hours a week and not around much. Anyway we got in to see the doctor and we explained what had ocurred, which was her 1st horrble intrusive thought regarding hurting her child and the fact that she got violently ill when it happened, she vomited from feeling overwhelming guilt and fear and still is not well because of it. Well, the fist question out of the doctors mouth was, "is there history of mental illness in the family?" And... I after a short pause, I said, "Yes, as a matter of fact there is. Her paternal uncle was diagnosed with schitzephrenia at the age of 17." It was like the doc had hit me in the stomache with a cynder block! Well, she sent us to the mental health hospital 100 miles away to Bismark N.D. and my daughter was in there for 2 weeks. This was the beginning of a very intense realization... Title: Re: Help! Thinking about your journey to where you are now must bring up lots of emotions. I know it does when I go down that path. The scope of what is within so called 'normal' boundaries is very broad. I remember thinking my Dd was within those boundaries and just needed . . . When it exploded into BPD it was overwhelming. Sending thoughts . . . Title: Re: Help!
