Title: Looking for ideas
Post by: denvermama17 on March 15, 2017, 04:30:12 PM
I am wondering what others have done when asking for a separation from their partner.

I am thinking about asking my partner for a separation and not sure quite how to start. I have been working with a counselor on how to maintain safety, but she isn't always helpful when it comes to actually asking or ideas on what next steps are.

Thanks so much.

Welcome denvermama17:

I'm sorry you may be dealing with a separation.  I can understand that it has to be a very stressful time for you.

Do you plan to get a lawyer?  Things vary, in accordance with where you live.  Sometimes, it's possible to get information from the courts that service your area, so you can process the paperwork on your own.

The Detaching Board has information that you might find helpful.  The first link below to information about exiting a relationship.  The 2nd link will take you to the Detaching Board.
