Title: Growing up with BPD Mother Post by: Lotus1 on August 06, 2017, 12:13:45 PM Hi. Until recently, I was unaware of BPD. I grew up with a mom who has it but never knew it. We were a typical middle-class family. My dad worked, my mom was the housewife raising kids. I blocked a lot of the dysfunction. My family walked on eggshells--raging, mental and physical abuse. To this day it continues and as she ages, the hoarding is worse as well. She is an organized hoarder. Reading your blogs, I understand the progression. I'm glad I found the reason why my mom is the way she is, and helps me to understand. I am sad for her. She is 90 and I don't believe therapy will do any good for her now. Being on this site and reading will/does help me - thanks
Title: Re: Growing up with BPD Mother Post by: Turkish on August 06, 2017, 11:16:29 PM My mother has always been a hoarder. What do you mean by "organized?" I can guess, but I'd be interested in your description. Fear of loss drives hoarding. Given her age, there also may be a generational thing going on. She would remember the Great Depression. My mother was born in 1942, but grew up poor and remembers stories from all of her elder siblings. She was always into canning, hoarding food, and stockpiling for "The Apocalypse." She was a "prepper" decades before it became mainstream.
What other things have you struggled with which lead you to believe she has BPD? Title: Re: Growing up with BPD Mother Post by: Benjamin219 on August 19, 2017, 08:38:40 AM I am new here and I also have a BP mother who is elderly. She was a hoarder, when we moved her out of her house we took 200 bags of pillows and bankets etc and did not make a dent. Thank-you for posting, I am new here and had no idea the hoarding could be related to the BPD.
