Title: Not sure what to say
Post by: sbedeela on September 03, 2017, 02:09:50 PM
I really need help. I've been with my boyfriend for 2 years now and at first it was wonderful. He has BPD and I don't know what to do to help him. He hurts me too and I try not to take things personally but it's hard. He cycles and I try to help in every way I can. Right now he's in a state where he sleeps all day and all night. Usually that is followed by extreme rage and then he's wonderful again for a couple weeks. I need someone to talk to and I don't know what to do. It would be so easy to give up but I truly love him and I don't want to.

I guess I should provide more background. I am 46. My bf is 38. We are both divorced. Mine amicably and his not. We both have 2 kids. I have shared custody with their father and they are 16 and 17. They are great kids and rarely have discipline issues. His kids are not in his life.

I guess it was a few months in before I realized that I was dealing with something. He snapped at me about something that was almost laughable and there was a look of rage in his eyes that I'd never seen before.

His episodes are triggered by lack of sleep as near as I can tell. He will stay up for days at a time with little sleep at all working on cars or projects that he has going. I have begged him to get on a more normal schedule and I saw that he just bought a sleep aid so I'm hoping that means he's willing to try. He's taking an antipsychotic because I asked him to see someone and that I couldn't be with him the way it was. That was about a year ago.

Hi sbedeela,

*welcome*

I'd like to welcome you to bpdfamily, I'm sorry to hear that you're going through a difficult time. Do you both live together? How are the kids? Boys or girls?
