Title: Hello

Hi there.  Finally jumping into the online BPD community.  Really needing to feel connected to people that can kind of understand what we're going through.  My daughter turned 18 at the end of May, shortly after her BPD diagnosis, and her 3rd hospitalization this year.  We had many struggles the past four years, and the BPD diagnosis is bittersweet.  It is good to know there is a reason, but it's a really crappy reason.  I'm struggling with letting her start to go off on her own, because she just continues to make poor choices.  However- she is newly 18 and feels like she is now "an adult" and free to make all of her own choices. The problem is that those choices of hers DO actually affect everyone else! I'm struggling.

Hi allstarr,
Our BPD daughter is 18 too.  Isn't it a brutal time?  That magic number means you suddenly have a whole new set of rules.   They want to be independent, and feel they are adults, but their coping skills are immature.

Is your daughter in therapy?  What are her biggest struggles right now?

How are you doing?  This is a difficult diagnosis for parents to handle too.   Don't forget to take care of yourself too.

This online community is great... .it has taught me so much already!  It's just so nice to know you're not alone!

Take care,
1hope
