Title: I need help
Post by: Ultra2017 on September 28, 2017, 11:05:20 PM
Hi

My NPD husband filed for divorce 2x, we have a child and legally separated over 1 year.  We are both in our 2nd respective divorce attorneys. He's delayed and stalled both the divorce and custody.  I have no idea how to get legally free of him.  I'm as a result dealing with depression, anxiety and ptsd all developed in last couple of years.

Hi, Ultra, and welcome!

I'm also in year two   of trying to divorce my BPD wife. Some of that time is due to the slow court process, and some is definitely stalling or obstruction on her part.

What are the holdups you are dealing with? How can we help you here?

As sad as your circumstances are, welcome to our safe place.  The peer support is both practical and assuring, and the collective wisdom here is immense.

It would be helpful to know how young or old your child is.  Also, is the temp order favorable to you?  I ask because my temp order was totally favorable to my then-spouse and so she had no incentive whatsoever to see the divorce process ended.  That's how I ended up with a 23.5 month divorce.  We had to address every item on the court's checklist and each one took 2 to 5 months.

Also, my ex or her attorney would file for continuances and that slowed things down since the rescheduled date was at least a month later.  However, while courts often don't scrutinize the first couple continuances, at some point the court will get peeved at the delays.  Beware too of the lawyers giving each other the "professional courtesies" of not challenging such requests.
