Title: My fraternal twin has traits of borderline personality disorder.
Post by: Danee on September 29, 2017, 06:06:49 PM
Hello everyone. I'm a 39 year-old woman with a fraternal twin sister, M. My sister has traits of borderline personality disorder, and I need to connect with people going through similar experiences.

Here is some background about us. We are each other's only sibling, and we grew up moving around so much that we don't have any lifelong friends. Our mother is bipolar and subjected us to violent abuse throughout our childhoods. Our father has narcissistic personality disorder, put us down, and did not protect us from our mother. Both parents were emotionally neglectful. Neither my sister nor I have a relationship with our parents anymore even though our parents are still alive.

M. and I grew up being bullied and excluded at school and even as adults in the workplace. Neither one of us has many real friends at all. We've both suffered serious depression and anxiety and are on medication. My sister got married but I never found a husband, and neither of us has children, pretty much because of the problems I'm describing. I have worked for most of my adult life but M. has had so many interpersonal problems that she gave up work, and now her husband takes care of her. My sister has come into and out of my life multiple times since we became adults.

It all sounds like quite the sob story, I know, but I consider myself a survivor. I'd like to receive and offer support to other people who have a beloved family member with borderline traits. Thank you for listening to my story.

There are definitely other members who have siblings with BPD with whom you can connect,  so

*welcome*

You definitely sound like a survivor  :)

I'm curious... .what do you think were the factors contributing to you being excluded first at school and later in the workplace?

Hi Danee,

Welcome to the BPD Family

Thank you for sharing some of your background.

It all sounds like quite the sob story

I don't hear a "sob story" I hear an abusive childhood and that childhood clearly (and naturally) affected both you and your sister.

Are either or both of you seeing a Therapist?  Having that support could be helpful.

How is your relationship with your sister?  What do your interactions look like?  Is there something in particular that you are struggling with in relation to your sister?

I'm glad you decided to jump in an post, there is a lot of support, tools, and ideas on this site, we all have someone with BPD or BPD traits in our lives and we "get it".

Take Care,
