Title: Finances and adult BPD daughter Post by: mybabygirl23 on October 10, 2017, 11:36:41 AM Looking for feedback on how others handle requests for money for meds and dr appts? I feel like I’m enabling when I cover the costs but stress about the consequences of skipping meds and/or treatment.

You are not on your own here financially supporting in one way or another. It's great your daughter is taking her meds. What would it take for your daughter to be able to pay for her meds? That's her goal. Help with financial management or earn more money for example? Personally I see it as a process, part of the plan, there is a fine line between enabling and supporting. If there is progress I consider that support. My daughter gave up work last December to focus on recovery (DBT finished in August) and she's made great strides. She lives at home and receives a small amount of disability allowance that pays for her meds, phone, travel, cat food, vet fees. Next step is work (back to contributing to rent etc). It's a work in progress... WDx |
