Title: Adult Daughter has depression and serious anxiety
Post by: joanni on October 13, 2017, 10:14:25 AM
Hi, My 41 yr old daughter suffers from depression, anxiety and shows signs of paranoia at times. She blames me for many things from the past, and has difficulty moving past the 'issues'.  She did not speak to me for many years, (or if she did, it was nearly always a negative experience). She has now reconnected in the past 2 yrs, but at times still lashes out quite severely, and demands 'apologies' from me for the past history. Very upsetting. I am a 71 year old senior, single mom, with health issues, and most times am at a loss as to how to connect/discuss things with her.

Am looking for tips form others, please.

Hi joanni

Welcome to bpdfamily, I'm sorry what brings you here though glad you reached out for support, many parents are as you'll read in similar situations, you are not alone.    It's very upsetting behaviour being lashed out and not uncommon for some people to have difficulty moving on from past issues you describe, falling into a repeated pattern.  There are tools and lessons to the right of your screen  |---> that help us change the way we communicate to improve relationships, and include tools for diffusing emotions to help bring back to baseline. How do you respond when your daughter lashes out?

We are here for you.
