My mother has traits and I am living with her now. She is 73 and looking for help to deal with her anger and narccisim. She throws thing's and yells blaming everyone but herself. Any advice appreciated.

I'm so sorry about the difficulty with your mom.  Is your situation such, that you have to live with her (or her with you), or is it possible for you both to live apart?  Has your mom ever gotten treatment for mental health issues?

You don't have any power to change your mom, but you can make some adjustments with boundaries and how you react to your mom.  If you look at the large green band, at the top of the page, you will see a "Tools" section.  Check out the link to "Boundaries".  Boundaries are for your benefit and are up to you to enforce.

Also, within the "Tools" menu, you will find a link to "Workshops" at the bottom of the menu.  There are several pages of helpful workshops and tutorials for various communication skills.  At the bottom of the first page, is a tutorial about JADE (Don't Justify, Argue, Defend or Explain).  The JADE tutorial is a helpful lesson.

What is your usual reaction when your mom yells and throws things?  Does she get a reaction from you?  Are you able to share an example of a situation around which your mom yelled and threw things?

Has she always been like this,  or is age making things worse? Why do you say NPD?
