Title: Well Seasoned Salty Dog in the BPD Arena
Post by: Eye438 on December 05, 2017, 07:41:23 PM
i had a BPD mother, a partner for 5 years and now a 34 year old daughter, my experience with these personalities is beyond my own understanding.
After all said and done I have come to realize this is a mental illness of which there is no cure or medication to make it better.
In the days before things were broken down as they are today into so many brackets of categories in the world of psychology, many personality disordered people were institutionalized, we don’t do that anymore. That is a good thing, but for people that are ill and in need of help, their family, and loved ones are left with many unanswerable questions particularly where to begin to get help.
I have learned thru it all and continue to realize particularly with my daughter that this is a mental illness, there is really nothing I can do to change that. I can only change myself in the way I react and cope, which means boundaries must be adhered to for my own well being. It was\is the most difficult step for me but the only way I could protect myself.
I am thankful for this site which helped me survive a BPD/BP partner a few years ago. I am still drained from that to a degree because of the amount of energy it took to care of and love my BPD partner while allowing everything I had to be drained out of me.
Thank you BPD family!
