Title: Hello Post by: Baronmom4 on December 13, 2017, 08:19:51 PM Hi everyone. This is my first post here. I’m the mother of four beautiful children, ranging in age from 20 to 9. My 13 year old daughter has been exhibiting behaviors consistent with BPD for several months. On Black Friday she overdosed on Depakote, Zyprexa, Lexapro and Ibuprofen. She was in the hospital for 4 days before she was discharged to an inpatient facility where she resided for about 2 weeks. She is now released from inpatient and is in an outpatient day program. I hate to say it but I still feel like I’m waljing on eggshells. I have talked to the psychiatrist in the hospital and my daughter’s counselor and both have indicated that she has many BPD traits. In fact the psychiatrist at the hospital told me that many will try to label her as bipolar but she has more borderline traits than bipolar. The psychiatrist at the inpatient facility will not even remotely entertain the idea that she could have BPD. Instead, she has taken her off all of her meds, except Lexapro, which was reduced from 20 mg to 10 mg. She is also recommending that we have a neuro-psych exam to see if she has Aspergers. Her counselor feels that there is no way she has aspergers, which I agree. How do we get the doctors to quit messing around and give her the diagnosis she needs? Any help or advice would be much appreciated. I am in uncharted territory. Thanks!

Welcome to the family. Yikes, no wonder you are confused, I would be too. How to bring the in and out together? Is there a Director of mental health you can speak directly with? Alternatively can you speak with each of them to share they are contradicting each other and you expect them to get on the same page right now. I've had to work through gaining care for my now 29DD like you are and it worked. You can do this, we are here to help, always. WDx |
