Title: Looking for RTC for daughter16 Post by: memphismom on January 21, 2018, 07:28:39 AM We are looking for RTC for our daughter who is bi-polar and has all of the behaviors of BPD. It's seems like many we've looked into have more of a addiction or eating disorder focus. I understand that these often go hand in hand but that is not currently her issue. She attended a day treatment program in Memphis has been seeing a therapist for the past year. They used DBT and it seemed to be helping but since school started back, her behaviors have been escalating. She needs more intensive help.
D is willing to go to an inpatient facility and found one online called Newport Academy in Orange California. Counselors have recd: Timberline Knolls, La Europa, Sunrise RTC, and Elevations. Does anyone have any experience with any of these facilities or can you point me in a different direction? We need something ASAP or she will end up in one of our local facilities which would not be a good fit at all. I've toured them. Thanks! I know it must seem like a very very silver lining, but what good news that your D16 is willing to go inpatient, and that doctors recognized BPD behaviors in her teen years. I know that can seem like small potatoes when a child is struggling in so many other ways, but sometimes these tiny little bright spots go a long ways. I'm not familiar with RTCs, though there is a member who was on the site for many years, and she journaled her family's experience with Falconbridge, an equine therapy RTC: https://bpdfamily.com/message_board/index.php?topic=120563.msg1188708#msg1188708 There is also Lesson 6 that covers RTC amongst other threads that might be helpful: https://bpdfamily.com/message_board/index.php?topic=114267.msg12588412#msg12588412 Last, have you contacted people at MacLean's hospital where I believe Dr. Blaise Aguirre's team is based? In his book Adolescence and BPD, I believe there are RTCs listed in the back, and I would suspect they selected those programs for reasons they could share? |
